It began January 2006. At 40 years of age my 250 pound 6’ frame was just not holding up like it used to. Crap! I didn’t feel that heavy. I was only 230 last year and 215 in 2003. However now I was on a first name basis with my chiropractor and my blood pressure was pre-hypertension. My physician wanted to put me on medication if I didn’t reverse this trend before the next visit. Welcome to middle age…I was now officially a trend.
So I decided to make a change and signed up with a personal trainer at my local gym. 10 sessions and $500 later I made absolutely no progress. I had perfect attendance with the trainer however that was the only time the gym ever saw me. Next stop BCOR.
The BCOR summer session season pass gave me the best of both worlds. Three to Five sessions a week with the attention, accountability and leadership of the BCOR coaches without the $50 - $80 per session price tag. I made good progress during the summer dropping thirty pounds and seeing my blood pressure return to normal. My secret was allowing BCOR to plug-n-play. I would just show up each morning, choose which intensity group to plug into and the coaches would take care of the rest. Failure was not an option. In short I had reversed the trend…You know they say 40 is the new 20.
To this day I am still confused (ticked off) with my decision to not participate in BCOR’s 2006 winter session. At the time I thought I could continue independently for six months. How hard could it be? Push ups and sit ups aren’t rocket science right? Wrong! Let’s face it. If I could do this myself I would not have needed BCOR in the first place. Vote for Pedro because I really botched last winter. My weight yo-yoed back up to 250 lbs and a little bit more…262 lbs to be exact. Do you realize how hard that is to admit?
So now it is August and I have been back with BCOR for the past five months. The 2007 summer session has been a very humbling and soul searching adventure. The BCOR coaches and residents give me the energy to show up and work hard each morning. You can always do one more leg raise knowing that the guy or girl next to you is grunting one out just the same. Once again things are on the right track. My blood pressure is under control and I have lost 20 lbs so far…again. My arms have definition and my midsection is no longer play-doh. For the second time I am reversing the trend. Thank you BCOR. The coaches have full permission to slap me up side the head if I flinch at the 2007 winter session. I am in!
